A Goldendoodle is Right For You

As you may be aware, there is a significant difference between what we call a “mutt,” and the “designer” dog. Although both dogs are mix-breeds (sometimes referred to as hybrids), the designer breed is created by deliberately combining the traits of different purebred dog breeds. How do mutts get their names? Who knows if you ask me? You can get the Best Ohio Mini Goldendoodle dog breeders in this sites.

A designer dog is bred from parents that have been selected for their complementary traits. Goldendoodles come from the deliberate crossing of Golden Retrievers with Poodles. You can buy Goldendoodle puppies from any reputable breeder. They are the results of a careful, considered cross between two purebred dogs that have no known health problems.

Goldendoodles, a hybrid of the Poodle and Golden Retriever breeds, are very popular. Golden Retrievers and Golden Poodles share a common trait: they are very intelligent dogs. Goldendoodle puppies also share similar traits.

Cockapoos look similar to goldendoodles but they’re usually bigger. Females Goldendoodles typically weigh 40-60 pounds. Males average 60-70. These weights reflect a Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle cross.

Breeders strive to make dogs more hypoallergenic. Poodles will hopefully contribute to this. As a breed, Poodles tend to shed less than the majority of other dogs. Golden Retrievers are notorious shedders. When the Golden Retriever gene is combined with Poodle DNA, it’s hoped that puppies born from this combination will exhibit all the desirable traits: an intelligent, active dog, and a coat similar to a Poodle.

Goldendoodles vary in their ability to cause allergies. Goldendoodles were used to train guide and assistance animals for 20 years because they are gentle and easy-going.

Goldendoodles are more consistent in their first generation. They were created by breeding a Golden Retriever to a Poodle instead of from two Goldendoodles. Poodles are more common than Golden Retrievers. Temperament could be either Poodle-like or Golden Retriever-like. A coat can range in color from black to blond and everything between. Goldendoodles breeders are familiar enough with Goldendoodles to have an idea about how each puppy develops.

Breeders of designer dogs try, amongst other things, to breed dogs with fewer problems than the original breeds. In the hybrid vigor, this is referred to. In the first generations of this breeding, some problems are not present. Goldendoodles born in the first generation can be very healthy or not.

Both parents having similar genetic issues can cause problems. Golden Retrievers, for instance, are prone to hip dysplasia. When the Poodle parents share this condition, it doesn’t matter what breed they are. Their puppies will likely inherit similar hip dysplasia problems.

For this reason, it is vitally important that your breeder is testing/investigating the health and lineage of the both parents. Never buy a Goldendoodle (or any other dog) without discussing with the seller the issue of bloodlines and health. Goldendoodles and Poodles both have the tendency to develop progressive retinal disease.

It is better to use Goldendoodles that are a few generations old, as opposed to breeding directly with a Golden Retriever. This will reduce the benefit of the breeder and result in puppies who resemble either a Poodle and/or a Golden Retriever.

Goldendoodles – and many other designer dog breeds – are extremely popular. You should do some research about potential health concerns before you get one. If both breeds show a common tendency to have the same issue, you should take extra precautions. Be sure to also get familiar with any contributing breeds. Goldendoodles can be an acquired taste. For example, if Poodles do not appeal to you or you are not a Golden Retriever fan, it is likely you won’t enjoy Goldendoodles.
